Water: The Universal Solvent and the chemical of life
Some basic biochemistry to get you started
Biochemistry is a huge topic and a very interesting one!!
It is really useful for you to have a basic understanding of the chemistry behind living organisms, which is what Biochemistry is. So to get you on the first step here are a couple of really good introductions to the molecules of life:

Moving stuff around cells:
As part of your understanding of how cells work it would help if you understood how materials move in and out of cells.
This is a wee clip on Osmosis which explains how water moves. Water makes up over 90% of most cells and as water moves it has an effect on other substances.
A couple of definitions to note: a SOLUTE is a chemical which is dissolved in the solvent, usually water. The SOLVENT is a liquid that the chemical dissolves in. It is usually water, but it could be most any other liquid.

Understanding Enzymes
Enzymes are pretty important too, as they control all the cell reactions which need to happen in the cell to make it live. These cell reactions are known as METABOLISM.
The link below is about a 20 minute clip which goes through the basics and more about enzymes and proteins. (It mentions a worksheet, sorry I havent got one!!!)
The Promises of stem cells
The Clip below is about a 20 minute presentation on how stem cell research may change medicine in the future
